Description: The UWI Film Programme invites passionate, talented actors to be part of an exciting opportunity to support the next generation of filmmakers.
Now in its second year, UWI Film Camp is a dynamic initiative that brings together aspiring young filmmakers between the ages of 14–17 for an immersive hands-on experience in filmmaking. As part of this year’s camp, seven (7) short films — each approximately 5 minutes long — will be produced under the guidance of seasoned film educators and and mentored by current film students.
We are seeking dedicated actors of all experience levels, ages 17 and up, who are enthusiastic about their craft and open to working in a creative, educational environment. This is your chance to perform in meaningful, youth-led stories while contributing to the development of emerging talent.
Film Titles and Character Breakdowns:
Film: Echo
Synopsis: A single man uses an app that simulates talks based on audio notes from a contact. He uses it for his ex, and every day after work, he conducts a pretend discussion with her – until the voice notes from their breakup come into play. [see character breakdown]
Film: Mango
Synopsis: Students find a mango that never goes bad. They try to study it. Livestream it to see if they catch it decomposing. It never does. [see character breakdown]
Film: Maco
Synopsis: An app allows you to race track people in your vicinity letting you know who’s macoing you. The app alerts our protagonist that everyone is always looking at them – spiralling them into paranoia [see character breakdown]
Film: Faceless Filter
Synopsis: Inspired by doeuns has taken teens by storm – on it you socialize with a faceless filter so no one can judge you, the only issue is once the app has your face you can’t get it back. [see character breakdown]
Film: Second Goodbye
Synopsis: An app allows a girl to say goodbye to her late partner – using VR, she is transported to the last place she saw them, poolside before a car crash, as she embraces him he begins to blur as time passes – eventually blurring out of sight and leaving her alone in the pool. Film: The Launch
Synopsis: At a mysterious tech retreat in Trinidad, newcomer Elroy is chosen by charismatic CEO Jack Millington to inherit a strange briefcase—the true source of the company’s power. Bound to it by a handcuff and a cryptic mission, Elroy is thrust into a secret that blurs the line between nature, technology, and something far more dangerous [see character breakdown]
Film: Island. Exe
Synopsis: A professor explores simulation theory through the eyes of a university student who uncovers the world around him. As Kyle’s curiosity pulls him deeper he discovers a simulation program that controls the island. [see character breakdown]
Casting Note: Each short film will be treated as a separate project, and if selected, actors will be compensated individually for each title. While you may indicate which films you are most interested in being considered for, the UWI Film Camp reserves the right to consider you for additional roles across the full slate of projects.
