Logline: Against the backdrop of Trinidad’s Carnival, Caddy, a young man, navigates the complex intersections of passion battling family traditions, and societal pressure amidst the pulsating rhythms of the steel pan.


Character Breakdown:

***CADDY: Male, 20-30. Indo-Caribbean. The soulful paradox. Charismatic romantic and pan master, grappling with cultural identity vs. newfound faith. Seeks redemption and purpose.

***JIM: Male, 20–30. Afro-Caribbean. The quiet fire. Intense, loyal, and passionate about pan. His unspoken love for Rita and resentment towards Caddy’s choices force him to find his own voice.

***RITA: Female, 20-30. Mixed Race. Independent, outspoken and a gifted singer. Serves as an emotional anchor for Jim and Caddy.

***PETAL JOHNSON: Female, 20-30. Canadian/White. A pastor’s daughter and a gifted singer and dancer. Torn between loyalty to her family and navigating a new culture and complex relationships.

YOUNG JIM: Male, early – mid teens. Afro-Caribbean. A dreamer – daring, bright, and loyal. Shows signs of early maturity. After experiencing a tragedy, he finds comfort, community and renewed purpose in a pan yard. Ability to swim will be an asset.

YOUNG CADDY: Male, early – mid teens. Indo-Caribbean. Playful and occasionally cocky, but very loyal and supportive of his best friend, Jim. Ability to swim will be an asset.

YOUNG RITA: Female, early – mid teens. Mixed Race. Mature and feisty – has a good head on her shoulders. A supportive friend to both Jim and Caddy – tragedy brings them even closer.

MR. SAMUELS: Male, late 40s – late 50s. A passionate teacher who loves pan. A mentor and father-figure to Jim and Caddy.

MRS. ELLIS (JIM’S MOTHER): Female, early 40 – 60+. Afro-Caribbean. Loving and a natural nurturer.

MRS. MAHARAJ: Female, early 40 – 60+. East Indian/Mixed. Caddy’s Aunt. Insightful and nurturing. Offers guidance to Caddy about his love and life choices.

MR. JOHNSON: Male, late 40s – 60+. Canadian/White. Petal’s father and a Baptist Pastor. Has old fashioned ideas and stands in opposition to Petal’s journey to independence.

MRS. JOHNSON: Female, late 40s – 60. Canadian/White. Petal’s mother. Softer and empathetic which leads her to be torn between respecting her husband’s authority and supporting her daughter’s happiness.

SPADE KINCAID: Male, 20 – 30. Afro-Caribbean. Street-smart and funny. Being mostly a comic relief, he’s very energetic and self-confident. Aspires to climb the ranks of the band and fights for that chance to shine. Pan playing an asset.

ADDITIONAL ROLES: Gender Non-Specific. Any Age, Any Ethnicity. Opportunities for Day Player, Bit Part and Background/Extra Roles.
