Job Title: Assistant Choreographer
Employment Status: Project based (Contract)
Job Summary:
Ideal for early to mid-career candidates with a background in theatre or dance, we are seeking highly passionate candidates to work on various projects as Assistant Choreographers. In this capacity, you will work closely with the Choreographer to support their creative vision, ensuring the performers deliver exceptional choreography that enhances the storytelling and captivates the audience.
REPORTS TO: The Choreographer
Key Duties:
The duties of the Assistant Choreographer shall include:
- Lead warm-up sessions to ensure performers are physically prepared for rehearsals and performances;
- Assisting in teaching the choreography, and leading rehearsals when the Choreographer is unavailable;
- Providing constructive feedback and guidance to performers, helping them refine their techniques, and ensuring the safe execution of the choreography;
- Documenting all choreography created or assigned, including notation of key movements, transitions, and blocking;
- Maintaining a professional working environment during all rehearsals and related activities;
The Assistant Choreographer MAY also be required to:
- Assist the Choreographer in auditioning potential candidates for the specified project;
- Collaborate with the Choreographer to conceptualize and develop movement for specified musical numbers or sequences;
- Collaborate with the Choreographer and other members of the creative team to prepare rehearsal schedules;
- Coordinate communication between the Choreographer, performers, stage crew, and any other relevant personnel as needed, to ensure the safe execution and presentation of the choreography.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate should be/have:
- Professional work ethic, punctuality, and commitment to meeting deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and contribute innovative ideas to the choreographic process;
- Strong background in theatre and/or dance, with an understanding of how dance contributes to storytelling in this context;
- Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to performers to enhance their dance performances;
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation of choreography;
- Ability to adapt choreography to accommodate different skill levels and physical capabilities of actors and dancers;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with actors, dancers, and various production team members;
- Previous experience in choreographing or assisting in musical theatre productions will be an asset.
Compensation: $700 TTD – $2,500 TTD per project (based on project scope and duration)
Frequency: At the end of each assigned project

Commitment: Short – Medium Term Engagement (1 – 4 months per project)
Additional Information: Rehearsal days, times and locations may vary per project. Candidates will be contacted based on their suitability and availability for one or more of these projects, some of which may begin as early as the 3rd week of September, 2024. These projects may involve working with children as young as six years old, as well as teens and young adults. Experience or willingness to work with a range of age groups will be an asset.
About the Choreographer:

Triston Wallace is a versatile performing arts professional, and the Founder & Managing Director of The Trinidad and Tobago Performing Arts Network.
His choreography credits include: John Thomas’ Showtime – A Musical Theatre Review (2024); Fatima College’s Gifts of Blue and Gold 5 (2014); Native Caribbean Foundation’s Big Bad Musical (2015 – 2016), Law, Order C-rhyme and Pun-Ishment (2017) and Alice @ Wonderland (2018); Picoplat Music Development Foundation’s The Magic Flute (2017); and Presentation College Mixed Choir’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat (2014) as the associate choreographer to Marlon De Bique, and The Music Man (2015). He also worked extensively with the Eastern Youth Chorale on their various productions between 2007–2011.
The highlight of his career thus far has been choreographing for Brian Mac Farlane’s Christmas Joy (2015, 2018 – 2019); Simeon Moodoo‘s The Inspector with Naparima College (2016 – 2017) which won 10 out of 16 awards at the Caribbean Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival in Antigua, and was remounted by DNA Productions in 2023; AIDA the Musical (2018) with Presentation College Mixed Choir; Une Petite Nuit (2022 – 2023) with Chandelier Productions; and Rockin’ Snow White (2019 – 2020), and Rockin’ Robin Hood (2023) with Native Caribbean Foundation.
