Facilitator: Tafar Chia Lewis (Port-of Spain)
Tafar Chia Lewis is a venturesome actress, dramaturg, director, and writer, and the founder of Teatro Journee, a Caribbean performing arts organization.
Trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Tafar holds an MFA in classical and contemporary acting, with previous studies in Theatre at the University of the West Indies. Her accomplishments include playing Juliet at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, and producing and performing theatre while teaching in India, Nepal, Antigua, and Norway. She recently had the pleasure of facilitating her acting training program at the dynamic Tobago Performing Arts Company and is currently an acting coach for several talents in the Caribbean.
Tafar is one of the founding members of the National Theatre Arts Company of Trinidad and Tobago, currently serves as an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts at U.W.I., and is writing and further developing her mono-drama called “God Save the Queen.”
Facilitator: Syntyche Bishop (San Fernando)
Syntyche Bishop is an actress, director, singer, and voice/performance coach. She has traveled the world performing as a vocalist with Carnival Cruise Lines and touring with the Suite Chorale. She was invited by the Actors Chapel on Broadway in New York to perform for Black History Month on two occasions.
Syntyche served as an assistant to the coordinator of the BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, and in 2021, she directed “TALAWA,” a docu-performance of the life and journey of Lil Bitts. Currently, she is a full-time resident actor at the National Theatre Arts Company. She holds a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, and is absolutely thrilled to share her expertise with our students.
