Title: Queen of the Road – The Calypso Rose Musical

Synopsis: Queen of the Road is an epic Jukebox Musical chronicling the life of the “Mother of Calypso,” Calypso Rose. Written by Rhoma Spencer, and featuring Stacey Sobers (2018 Calypso Queen) in the title role, the Musical provides a retrospective of Rose’s life from the moment she wins the Victoire de la Musique Award (French Grammy) in Paris in 2017. Relayed through a series of flashbacks, from her early life in Tobago and Trinidad, Queen of the Road recounts the struggles and triumphs of Calypso Rose as she moves through a world where for many years, she was the lone woman on a male-dominated stage.


Character Breakdown:

Mr. Spike: Male, mid 20s – late 30s. The Calypso Tent Manager. Can sing and act, but ability to dance as well will be an asset.

Aldrick: Male, 40 – 50s. Calypso Rose’s uncle and common law husband to Aunt Edith. Can sing and act, but ability to dance as well will be an asset.

Aunty Edith: Female, 40 – 50s. Calypso Rose’s adopted mother, common law wife to Aldrick. Can sing and act, but ability to dance as well will be an asset.

Singer 1+2: Female, 20s – 30s. Any ethnicity, any body type. Can sing and act, but ability to dance as well will be an asset.

CASTING NOTE: Please note that while we will respond to all applicants, only selected candidates will receive invitations to the virtual audition. Further details regarding the virtual audition will be provided exclusively to those who have been shortlisted.

If selected for this project, please be prepared to travel and reside in Trinidad from April till the 2nd week of May for the duration of the production.
