Title: A Melody for Agostini ( Dramatic Reading via Zoom )
Play Synopsis: Distraught by his best friend’s supposed passing, Anthony ‘Keech’ Warner seeks comfort in writing a calypso dedicated to him. Whilst on this artistic mission and carrying out personal interests, he stumbles across a perceived supernatural experience. Little does he know that this encounter is not the only bit of chaos that flows through his home village of Agostini.
Character Breakdown:
MALE ROLES
- Anthony ‘Keech’ Warner: Male, 23 – 30 y/o. Champion all-fours card player and aspiring calypsonian. Got his nickname as a result of his obsession with becoming a great calypsonian like the Lord Kitchener.
- Robert ‘Boyo’ Brown: Male, 50 – 60 y/o. Husband of Bernice. He is the father of Gardner. Commonly goes by Boyo.
- Gardner Brown: Male, 18 – 23 years old, the only son of Bernice and Robert.
- Manuel ‘Manny’ Christopher: Male, 24 – 29 y/o. Young drunkard whose only joy in life is drinking and wondering off. Keech’s best friend
- Elvis: Male, 26 – 33 y/o. Regular at the bar. Smitten with Melda after believing seeing her one night during a particular situation.
- Breaker: Male 30 – 35 years old. Clara’s older brother.
NOTE: Ability to sing and/or play the guitar will be an asset, but is not required
FEMALE ROLES
- Lilly- Marie ‘Imelda’ Jones: Female, 19 – 25 y/o. The younger, more attractive sister of Melda. Is called “Little Melda” or “Imelda”.
- Melda-Ann Jones: Female, 25 – 35 y/o. Older, more aggressive sister of Lilly.
- Bernice Brown: Female, 50 – 60 y/o. Runs the village parlour. Married to ‘Boyo’ who she believes fancies Melda. Distanced at heart with her husband, she has taken fancy to playing tricks.
- Clara: Female, 26 – 29 y/o. Melda’s friend. In love with Elvis but is constantly ignored by him.
- Mavis: Beggar lady

Additional Information: Actors cast for this dramatic reading will assist the playwright in developing her work further, to be considered for final presentation at the Annual New Play Festival (NPF) in November.
Participation in the Dramatic Reading will be voluntary. Compensation will be offered for the November performances, should this play be selected for advancement in the festival.
