Description: This two (2) day, 4 session workshop will cover: Voice, speech and text, Characterisation, Fundamentals of Acting and Improvisation.


Dates: Saturday 9th + Sunday 10th February 2019

Marvin Ishmael

Marvin Ishmael graduated from York University, Toronto where he received his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in directing. He obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Ryerson University, Toronto.

On stage he has appeared in ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘The Tempest’, ‘Othello’ and ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to name a few. In 2004, he was in the Broadway musical, ‘Bombay Dreams’, with music by AR Rahman, playing one of the principal performers Madan. In 2014 he toured in the smash hit with David Suchet ‘The Last Confession’. He is also in the Encyclopedia of Who’s Who in Canadian theatre.

At present, he is a lecturer at the UTT APA where he teaches Script Analysis, Voice Speech and Text, Acting and Directing for theatre.


belinda-barnes-e1468444451213Belinda Barnes is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.  She also holds a Diploma in Drama in Education from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England and her MA in Theatre Arts from Nebraska University.  She has been acting, teaching and directing in the Caribbean and USA for over thirty years.

At present she is an Assistant Professor in acting at the Academy for the Performing Arts at UTT, as well as the Artistic Director of the National Theatre Arts Company.


Michael Cherrie

Michael Cherrie received his professional training for the stage and screen at The National Theatre Conservatory’s Master of Fine Arts programme, Denver Center for the Performing Arts where he was seen in such productions as ‘Equus’ and ‘A Midsummer’s Night Dream’.

He has numerous stage credits in the United States which include: ‘A Streetcar named Desire’ and ‘The Three Sisters’ at The Denver Center Theatre Company; ‘Othello’ at The Houston Shakespeare Festival and ‘Antony and Cleopatra’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at The Colorado Shakespeare Festival.

His Caribbean credits include: ‘I, Marcus Garvey’ at The Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI; ‘Ti-Jean and His Brothers’ with The Trinidad Theatre Workshop, ‘Pantomime’ at the Little Carib Theatre and ‘Sing de Chorus’ with Canboulay Productions at The Reichhold Arts Centre, St. Thomas while his Film and TV credits include: ‘The Final Passage’ for UK’s Channel 4; ‘The Mystic Masseur’ for Merchant Ivory Films; ‘Angel in a Cage’ for Telefilm Canada, ‘Flight of the Ibis’, ‘Westwood Park’ and ‘The Reef’.

Michael has worked with directors such as Sir Peter Hall, Ismail Merchant, Greg Doran and Derek Walcott, and  in 1995 he won the Cacique Award for Best Supporting Actor.
