Description: At the Musical Theatre Workshop we will work on Technique, Style, Musicality, Expression, Communication, Creativity, Artistry. Musical theatre also gives performers a better understanding of musicality and helps to grow your personal confidence and performance quality. Plus, it’s fun!
You will learn ensemble Musical Theatre songs from some of the most famous Musicals; Cabaret, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Rent, Grease, Rocky Horror Picture Show and much more. You will learn choreography and staging for the songs (some dance ability required), and build skills in Musical Theatre dance technique, singing technique and staging and acting through song.
At the end of the Workshop there will be a Musical Showcase on December 13th at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts, where you will get to perform all the numbers we worked on in front of an audience. Arlene was born in San Fernando, Trinidad in 1964. She started dancing at the age of eight with Les Enfants under the direction of Ms. Joyce Kirton and started dancing professionally in Trinidad in 1981 with Trinidad Dance Productions under the direction of Jennifer Day Charles.
In 1982 Arlene moved to Oslo, Norway to further her career in Dance and Musical Theatre. She was a founding member and Principal Dancer of the Carte Blanche Dance Company, established in Oslo in 1984 by Jennifer Day, Toni Ferraz, and others (1984 – 1989) She was also a founding member and Principal Dancer of Oslo Dance Ensemble, established in 1993 by Merete Lingjærde (1993 – 2000).
Since 1986 Arlene has worked professionally as a highly regarded Musical Theatre stage artist in the national and regional theatres of Norway, as well as performing in a long list of various TV and Stage productions. She has choreographed for theatre and dance school productions and has worked as an assistant choreographer and dance captain in several Musical Theatre productions Arlene has taught Jazz Dance since 1984 and has been employed at many well established and reputable dance institutions in Norway. She has become a valued mentor/teacher for emerging musical performers.
Arlene is now an Associate Professor of Dance at The Norwegian College of Musical Theatre.

Additional Information: This workshop will be divided into two parts;
- The Workshop Sessions: 5th October – 23rd November (5 weeks)
- Rehearsal Sessions: 23rd November – 8th December (3 weeks)
Workshop and Rehearsal Sessions will be on Fridays (5PM – 8PM) and Saturdays (3PM – 6PM).
