Description: Members of the public are invited to attend a 12 session writing workshop (Saturdays from October 6th to December 15th and Sunday December 16th 2018) with acclaimed author Earl Lovelace. This is an opportunity to share your work with a group of fellow writers, with feedback and guidance from one of the Caribbean’s premier authors.
To apply, submit an excerpt of your short story, novel excerpt, play or screenplay (no more than 2500 words) by Saturday 22nd September 2018, along with your name and contact information. Successful applicants (only) will be notified by September 29th.

Earl Lovelace
Earl Lovelace is the author of Caribbean classics such as ‘The Dragon Can’t Dance’, ‘The Wine of Astonishment’, and ‘Salt’. His most recent novel ‘Is Just a Movie’ won the Grand Prize for Caribbean Literature and the OCM Bocas Prize. He has taught creative writing in the Caribbean and abroad, including at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and Pacific Lutheran University in Washington. His work has been translated into multiple languages and earned him numerous awards, including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and Chaconia Medal (Gold).
Cost: $3,600 (payment plans are available)
Application Period: 5th – 22nd September 2018
How to Apply: To apply, interested persons are required to submit an excerpt of your short story, novel excerpt, play or screenplay (no more than 2500 words) by Saturday 22nd September 2018, along with his/her name and contact information.
- Please include the title, page numbers, author’s name and email address on the document submitted (Times New Roman font, size 12, double spaced).
- For novel excerpts, writers may include no more than two or three lines of plot summary/contextual information, in addition to the 2500 word writing sample.
Successful applicants (only) will be notified by September 29th 2018. Applicants who are not notified are encouraged to continue writing and re-apply at the next opportunity. Fees are due October 5th 2018 (payment plans are available).
