Facilitator: Taurus Broadhurst
Taurus Broadhurst, a native of Richmond, VA, is an accomplished dancer, performer, and teacher and choreographer. He began his dance training with Ezibu Muntu African Dance Company and went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University as a major in the Department of Dance/ Choreography.
Broadhurst has danced in a number of companies, including Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, Chuck Davis’ African-American Dance Ensemble, and Rennie Harris’ PureMovement. He has also performed in DanceAfrica in Chicago, Jacob’s Pillow, Exit Festival in Paris, France, M.T.V.’s Direct FX, and Jimmy’s Uptown Café SoulErotica. He has taught at NYU’s Summer Intensive, The Bridge for Dance Studios in Manhattan, Harlem School of the Arts, CityDance, University of Trinidad and Tobago, and as a guest artist/instructor for Morehead State University. He was Artist in Residence at the University of Maryland School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (2014). He is also a 2014 Washington, DC Mayor’s Arts Awards Nominee for Outstanding Emerging Artist and is the recipient of the Maryland Choreographer’s Showcase Audience Choice Award (2015).
Broadhurst is now embarking on choreography with Taurus Broadhurst Dance/ An African Contemporary Dance Company. The company has performed at the Jack Guidone Theatre (DC), Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (MD), The Atlas Performing Arts Center’s INTERSECTION FESTIVAL, and Velocity Festival DC. And as director, Broadhurst has produced the Fresh series, shows that brought together emerging dance companies from across the east coast. Broadhurst is looking to do more community engagement, whether in DC or worldwide
