Workshop Description: Afro-Contemporary Dance steeped in the music of the Caribbean Africa. The class will blend traditions of Jamaican folk with Afro- Caribbean sensibilities to offer a fresh take on “Dancing the Diaspora”. Infused with Modern Dance and Ballet, Kevin’s class is a symbiosis of forms where dance is about human expression.

Facilitator: Kevin A. Ormsby 

Artistic Director of KasheDance, Kevin A. Ormsby works as a Dancer, Choreographer, Arts Marketing Consultant and is an adjunct artist with Dance Exchange (Washington D.C). The Ontario Arts Council’s KM Hunter Award Nominee in Dance (2016), Toronto Arts Council Future Leaders Lab Fellow (2015) and Canada Council for the Arts’ Victor Martyn Lynch – Staunton Award recipient in Dance (2014), he has performed with various companies and projects in Canada, Caribbean and the United States. He was a company member of Garth Fagan Dance (NY), Assistant to the Artistic Director and Marketing / Outreach for Ballet Creole, and performed in works by Lemi Ponifascio, Marie Josee Chartier, Allison Cummings, Ron K. Brown, Menaka Thakkur, Mark M orris and Bill T. Jones. He is co- Vice President of the Canadian Dance Assembly, Chairs National Standing Council (Dance Companies) and Pluralism Committee, was on Toronto Arts Council’s Community Arts Program and Dance Committees.
