Title: “The Music Man”
Synopsis: “When Harold Hill, a traveling con man, arrives in River City, he convinces the locals to start a band by purchasing the uniforms and instruments from him. His intention is to flee as soon as he receives the money. Librarian Marian Paroo suspects Harold is a fraud, but holds her tongue since her moody brother, Winthrop, is excited about the band. As Harold begins to develop feelings for Marian, he faces a difficult decision about skipping town
Format: Live Audition
Audition Date: Wednesday 30th September 2015
Time: 3pm- 6pm
Location: Presentation College, San Fernando’s Music Room
Preparation:
SIGN UP: ALL Interested persons are required to register online. Click HERE to complete registration form.
VOICE: Prepare a song preferably for the role you are auditioning for. You may also prepare any other song that you are comfortable with and that shows off your range.
MOVEMENT: Come with comfortable clothes and shoes that do not restrict your movement.
ACTING: Further instructions will be given at the audition.
Character breakdown:
Professor Harold Hill – smooth talking con man with plenty of charm.
Marian Paroo – Considered the “spinster” town librarian although she may be in her mid-twenties to early thirties. She is highly suspicious of “Professor” Hill.
Marcellus Washburn – Harold’s old friend, no longer a con man, who now lives in River City
Mayor George Shinn – Blustery and self-important polititian. He takes himself very seriously.
Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn – Is as self-important as her husband. Leading citizen of River City.
Mrs. Paroo – Irish mother of Maid Marian and wants her to “stop foolin around with all them hi-falutin books and settle down and get married”
Winthrop Paroo –Young boy of 6-7yrs. and brother to Marian and son of Mrs. Paroo. He is still dealing with the loss of his father; must be able to lisp.
The School Board (Barbershop Quartet) – Four bickering businessmen united by Hill (Olin Britt, Oliver Hix, Ewart Dunlop and Jacey Squires)
Pickalittle Ladies – Eulalie’s four gossipy friends (Alma Hix, Mrs. Squires, Ethel Toffelmier and Maud Dunlop)
Tommy Djilas – The town’s trouble-maker; secretly seeing Zaneeta Shinn
Zaneeta Shinn – The mayor’s oldest daughter; secretly seeing Tommy Djilas
Charlie Cowell – Anvil Salesman and competitor of Harold Hill
Constable Locke – The town sheriff
Amaryllis – Marian Paroo’s young piano prodigy; slightly bratty
